
04 Oct What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 5
In Year 6 this week, we have been working hard in writing to create dramatic setting descriptions, describing the fictional camp of Zakyna from our story ‘The Silver Sword’ by Ian Serralier. The descriptions we created focused on using expanded noun phrases with prepositions to vividly describe what could be seen, heard and smelt. The children’s descriptions were detailed and used exceptional vocabulary- they should be so proud of what they have achieved.
We then used our oracy skills to bring our setting descriptions to life. We thought carefully about how we could alter the environment to create an eerie mood, which supports our depictions of the prison camp in Zakyna. We also considered how our tone of voice and body language could be used to effectively portray how the camp makes the prisoners feel. Take a look at our performances…
