This half term in History, Year 6 have been expanding their knowledge of Ancient Civilisations by learning about Ancient Maya. The children started by looking at world maps and identifying the location of the land that was occupied by Ancient Maya – this was once known as Mesoamerica, but it now home to the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Belize.
This week we specifically looked the the culture of Ancient Maya – exploring homes, lifestyles, food and farming, family structures and social hierarchies. Year 6 made some incredible discoveries and were able to use their historian skills to make comparison between Ancient Maya and other Ancient Civilisations (like Ancient Greece and Rome), whilst also making comparisons to modern day Britain as we currently know it and giving explanations to support the undertaking of why change has occurred over time.
