25 Apr What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 1
This week in Year 6, we had great fun taking part in our Geography fieldwork day. We conducted a survey on our walk around our local area in Hackney. We carefully followed a planned route, which allowed us to make observations about some of the human and physical features that surround us. In groups, we then carried out surveys, using tally charts to collect data from the environment around us. Some children were looking specifically at land use, whilst others were carrying out a roadside survey to collect information on how people travel in our local area. We discovered that the majority of land use in Hackney is residential and retail, and we spotted a lot of cars on our walk.
Upon our return to school, we drew accurate maps of the local area and categorised land use. We also created a pie chart showing the most popular modes of travel around our local area. What fantastic geographers Year 6 are!
