31 Mar What’s happening in Year 6 – Week 6
In our humanities lesson this week, we used sources of evidence to discuss why and how Victorian prisons were so strict, as part of our Crime and Punishment topic. We discussed the different types of punishments used and thought about the impact these had on the prisoners. We also found similarities and differences with the modern day prison system. We agreed that Victorian prisons were incredibly strict and offered very little opportunity for rehabilitation. Instead, prisoners completed hard labour, which was often pointless. Sometimes, they would have to complete hours of labour, just to get given food.
