03 Mar World Book Day
St John and St James had such a special day celebrating World Book Day.
We were so impressed with the tremendous range of costumes both children and adults wore, sharing their favourite characters from their favourite texts! We started the day sharing who we were dressed as and sharing book recommendations with the class. After that, we read our class stories. KS1 looked at How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers and KS2 looked at Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carol.
The classes read the stories and unpicked the characters, settings and key events which took place in each. After that, they carried out a writing task based on the books. KS1 wrote about how they would catch a star and KS2 wrote a potion for the perfect book! Each class also had a drama workshop with the magnificent West End in Schools, linking to their text.
Finally, each class received a very special invite to a magical Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at lunchtime. They had delicious food, whilst revelling in the magic of Lewis Carol’s wonderful story. What a brilliant day!
