28 Jan Year 4, Spring 1, Week 4
This week Year 4 began to explore the concept of division in maths. The children started on Monday by
using place value counters to create amounts, partition numbers and share into equal groups. They very quickly realised that they could use their known times table facts to support with this. To build on this throughout the week, the children gradually removed concrete and pictorial resources and began to use the bus stop method to divide 2digit numbers by a 1digit number.
Have a look at what they’ve been getting up to…
Jonelle was solving the maths story: 45 divided by 3. After sharing her tens equally, she realised she was going to need to make a fair swap.
Chelsy was solving the maths story: 69 divided by 3. Here she is explaining her steps.
