28 Jan Year 6, Spring 1, Week 4
Year 6 have worked incredibly hard on their writing over the last few weeks. They have been producing poetry based on the three witches from William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” They have focused on how to structure poetry, figurative language, alliteration, sibilance and even creating rhythm and rhyme within their writing.
Through careful editing of their work and writing collaboratively with their partner, as well as independently, they have produced some excellent work. Below is a stanza from Ellie’s work. She has set the scene with a metaphor to describe the moon and then goes on to describe the landscape and the witches themselves, as they greet Macbeth and Banquo on the heath. A big well done to the brilliant poets that Year 6 are!
Beneath the luminous glowing ball of light,
Three, scintillating hags stand out of sight.
Their eyes fixed on the decaying, neglected landscape ahead,
Searching and seeking Banquo and Macbeth.
Lingering around the cauldron, they cackle and laugh,
Their lifeless eyes are full of glee.
Two strong, shadowy figures appear from the heath,
“All hail Macbeth!” they screech with an ear-splitting tone.
When they fade away with cackles and smoke,
It leaves the men in despair.
