11 Oct Year 6, Week 4
In history this week, Year 6 have been answering the enquiry question “were the soldiers of the British Empire treated fairly?” as part of their World War Two lessons. They used sources of evidence to build up their own historical conclusions to this question. This is Keicardae’s initial hypothesis after learning about the experiences of Jamaican war veteran, Alan Wilmot.
“Based on the story of Alan Wilmot, I think the soldiers of the British Empire were treated unfairly because he worked for Britain and often volunteered without getting paid. After the war, Britain demobbed him and sent him back to Jamaica. When he returned to our country two years later, he struggled to find accommodation and had to sleep on the underground.”.
